El problema d’anunciar que cantes cançons populars com L’emigrant, El virolai i la Santa Espina és que pots despertar tota mena de temors pels perills que això implica. Només els tÃtols ja desprenen connotacions polÃtiques i socials de tota mena que poden portar a malentesos tan fora de lloc com ara pensar que es tracta d’una regressió a un catalanisme ferotge poc adient en aquests temps de bogeria mestissa. Però això només ho pot pensar qui no ha escoltat les versions que ara interpreta Marina Rossell. Divendres, a la plaça del Rei, vestida de verd maragda, la cantautora de la Transició va avançar en concert peces del seu pròxim disc, cançons de Verdaguer, Guimerà , Maragall, Millet, de marcat accent religiós i patriòtic, escrites fa més de cent anys, entre la Renaixença i el Noucentisme, a les quals Maria Rossell i Maurici Vilavecchia han donat un bany d’actualitat tan precÃs, que quan s’escolten desapareixen tots els recels.
La primera part del recital va ser de cançons sentides, a excepció de Els contrabandistes. Èxits cà lids amb sabor de Mediterrà nia com ara No et fiïs mai de la calma, La gavina i d’una renovada De què parles havanera? que Maria Rossell va cantar amb generositat, afegint uns tocs de dramatisme en moments puntuals, com quan va interpretar Toca’m a capella en genuflexió, convertint-la en una lletania. Però les espectatives de la convocatòria estaven especialment centrades en la segona part de l’actuació. En el moment de les novetats. I el resultat va ser immillorable.
L’entrada va ser amb Mare de Déu del Món, l’únic tema escrit per ella que integrarà el nou disc, un tango afrancesat que feia endevinar que el que vindria a continuació seria diferent. I aixà va ser. Escoltar La santa espina amb la veu de Marina Rossell i el piano de Maurici Vilavecchia és com descobrir-la de nou. O L’emigrant, plena de sensacions trà giques. I dèiem que és un descobriment perquè Marina Rossell ha despullat aquestes cançons per teure’ls de sobre tots els vicis interpretatius amb què s’han anat cantant durant més d’un segle. Sense cobla, sense coral, defugint el contrapunt sardanÃstic, només amb piano, guitarra i unes percussions discretÃssimes, el clà ssic es transforma en una melodia tan actual com qualsevol altre. Una transformació, una revisió, que amb aquest treball Marina Rossell demostra que era absolutament necessà ria.
